Seapoint 50 - 17 Stillorgan

Spencer Cup - Sept 13th, 2008

A big thank you to all the guys who turned up last night for a great night of rugby including all those on the sidelines for their support.

It was a difficult first 40min as the pace that Seapoint started the game with definitely caught us cold although when it came to the set pieces and especially the scrum we owned them and this lead to our own try (penalty try) for continuous infringements in the scrum.

After an open discussion at half time we came out for the second half in the hope of stemming the tide and we did it in style with two unanswered tries in the corner both by Piggy in the middle Shanahan. Defensively we were immense in this half and probably should have added some additional scores before tiredness started to take a hold but with plenty of fire power on the bench we were able to bring in fresh legs to liven things up. Seapoint did outscore us 15 - 10 in the second half but we came away knowing that the real Stillorgan team showed up for the second half. Knowing that this team won the Leinster J1 league last season and had the opportunity of qualifying for the AIL I think we should all be proud of the effort but lets remember that there is still an awful lot to improve on before the league commences.

We have the opportunity to play Seapoint again at home this Saturday or out in Seapoint on Friday night under lights so can guys email or text there availability ASAP so that we can arrange the fixture. Another game like Monday night will stand to us a lot more than a game where we run away with it so if lads could make themselves available that would be great. Training as usual tonight and Thursday.

One last thing and from my point of view the most important in the lead up to the league kick off is the discipline. It killed us last year and last night being on the end of an at times rampant Seapoint team and to keep the heads, not give away penalties or back chat to the referee is exactly what I\'ve been asking for so well done and keep it going.

Regards
