Stillorgan 22 - 34 Parkmore
First game of the season resulted in a defeat to our local rivals Parkmore. Starting with several new heads in the team, Stillorgan got off to a great start by winning the toss. Good pressure by the Stillorgan defence ensured no way through for the opposition, with big tackles going in from the back row. Stillorgan backs were looking lively when good ball came their way. Half way through the first half good interaction between backs and forwards resulted in Parkmore conceding a penalty in front of their goals which was duely converted to put Stillorgan in front. This lead was held until the 55th minute of the first half when Parkmore responded with a penalty.
Disruption
A few injuries forced a couple of substitutions for us at half time and this
disruption gave the impetus to Parkmore and they took full advantage by
tagging on a couple of fortutious tries but each time the home boys
responded with their own tries. Liam R getting in for one and Alan S just
about making the line after being pursued from the half way line by the
Parkmore prop! Another try by Mark S led for a grand stand finish but
Parkmore just held out for the win.
Quacks
A good showing from the new boys Leo,
James M and from the old guard Mark S and Tom T. Also spare a thought for
Alan (Milky) who got a graze above the eye but taking advice from the
quacks on the sideline was duely rushed to hospital to get one stitch above
the eye under general anaesthetic!
Again well done to all and especially the new guys for an encouraging start to the season.
