Stillorgan up and running!

Stillorgan 32 - Guinness 28

This was a weekend to remember - Ireland beating the Wallabies on Saturday and Stillorgan nothching up their first win against Guinness in 4 years on Sunday.

The first league win for Stillorgan with a swashbuckling performance in a highly entertaining game. For the record the captain won the toss again. His tossing record is not to be underestimated. Playing with a small breeze, Stillorgan got off to a slow start and found themselves a try down after two minutes. It looked like it was going to be a long afternoon after that but in a blitzing 30 minutes, Stillorgan played a brand of rugby which was beautiful to watch and beautiful to play. First try resulted from a quick tap penalty by Denis who made it to the line without any help, second try came from a sweeping move and Gus unselfishly gave a pass to Hops to score, third try came from a drive by a rampant Stillorgan pack and fourth try came from a storming run by Leo and before I left the pub last evening, he had dragged 16 Guinness players, 10 Stillorgan players and the number 10 bus on his back from his own goal to score his first try for Stillorgan. The raids kept coming and our own French musketeer Fabien nearly joined in on the try fest but unfortunately a pass from Gus managed to have Kerrygold butter on it. Guinness did break away for a try after a missed tackle (hmmmm!) and reduced the arrears to 12 points at half time. The second half went to Guinness with a couple of tries but the damaged had been done in the first half by Stillorgan. Good performances all around from forwards and backs alike.
