Malahide 13 Stillorgan 10
Looking very pretty in their new jerseys, a battling Stillorgan just failed in the last furlong to beat Malahide in the J5 cup. With Dave Fleming installed as captain (no ability, talks a crap game, limited reading of the game, no inspirational guidance, lacking in motivational skills), the boys can look back on this game with a degree of pride. Having been on the back foot from the start and conceding a try early in the first half, Stillorgan fought back with tremendous spirit. Prominent in the pack was Seth who stole a good number of lineouts and with Derek leading the backs well,it was only a matter of time before a break through came. This came in the form of a 'sniping' run from Marky who off loaded (this is true)to the outhalf who fed quickly to the number eight, Dave.....who showed an alarming turn of pace (this is true too) to out pace the Malahide cover for a try. This was converted by Derek.
Good tackling by the Roscommon Gaels convert ,winger Alan and centre 'Hops' (he does tackle!) ensured no way through for Malahide up to the break. After half time more pressure by the Stillorgan pack resulted in a penalty converted by Derek.
However there was a sting in the tail, a breakaway try late in the second half pushed Malahide into the lead which they hung onto despite a grandstand finish by Stillorgan.
