All square against Barnhall after some technical adjustments

09 February 2003

Stillorgan 10 - Barnhall 10

You'll never beat Stillorgan. Once again a gritty performance by the home team saw them finish the league campaign with yet another draw. A much pumped up Barnhall started the game at a breath taking pace but solid defence managed to limit them to just one score. Despite early injuries to Stillorgan they managed to claw back into the game and were rewarded with a try by Aron after good play by the forwards. Alan converted to leave Stillorgan with a slender two point lead at half time.

The second half could be described as fractious with both sides testing the patience of the ref with dubious use of boot and fist. For Stillorgan they were only 'technical adjustments'. Allez les bleu. Stillorgan dominated the second half and tagged on another penalty. Playing fast uncompromising rugby, the home side were unlucky not to score again. A disturbing soccer element is creeping into the game as Milky was penalised for taking a dive. Another first for Stillorgan. Anyway Barnhall's only foray into the Stillorgan twenty two was late in the game and they managed to sneak a try to draw the game. A touch unlucky for the home side.

A good league campaign for Stillorgan which should see them finish third or fourth. We did leave a few games behind us. On the bright side we were the only team to take points of the runaway league winners,Suttonians.

All thanks goes to players, backroom staff and supporter alike. Bring on the cup campaign!!!
