Stillorgan 18 - St.Mary's College 15
Stillorgan came through a gripping and thrilling first round tie against St.Marys to move into the next round of the cup. In a game that had everything, St.Marys set their stall out early with the intention of running everything but resiliant tackling by the Stillorgan team ensured no early successes by Marys. The home side moved into the game and scored a great try by Donnacha after good work by twinkle toes Niallo. St.Marys responded quickly with a well worked try and follow up with a penalty to take a three point advantage ino the second half. Quickly after the break they ran another try in to stretch the lead to eight points.
Stillorgan buckled down and sniping runs by the speedy prop Fleming and not so speedy scrumhalf Derek swung the pendulum back in the home side's favour. Following a disrupted Marys' scrum on their five metre line, Derek pounced in to snaffle a loose ball and forced himself over for a well deserved try duely converted by Niallo. Stillorgan continued the pressure with Jerry prominent in the loose turning ball after ball after ball over. Resulting from more pressure Stillorgan were awarded another penalty which was converted by twinkle toes.
St.Mary's still dangerous on the counter attack began to lose their discipline and a free for all hangbags ensued in the middle of the park. After a prolonged kiss and make up. Stillorgan were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which was converted to put them back in the lead. This lead took them past the winning post for a well deserved win.
