Defeat by Malahide in tropical temperatures.

14 September 2003

Malahide 23 - Stillorgan 7

A good showing by SRFC yesterday against MRFC firsts. With the unusual odds against them - early kick off, eagerness to play topless etc SRFC played a predominantly running game throughout. But MRFC opened the scoring after 30 mins with two tries in quick succession despite some stout defending and fast open running from SRFC. Good work from the pack and the backs for SRFC alike led to a well deserved try in the corner from new comer Evan Shea. With the temperatures soaring and the hard ground taking its toll, MRFC snook in for another try which Johnny Dwyer takes 100% blame. SRFC continued their open running tactics right to the end to MRFC cbewilderment. Overall a good showing from SRFC against a team 2 grades higher. Man of the match from SRFC was our other newcomer Mattie Drake at out half.
