Aer Lingus grounded as Stillorgan run riot.

27 September 2003

Stillorgan 60 - Aer Lingus 0

As everybody was looking forward to the drinking session in town later that night, not many expected a 60 point victory before kick-off. Without being disrespectful to Aer Lingus I don't think anybody knew the exact score at the end of the game but Aer Lingus definitely got nil.

The first 5 minutes were closely contested with the Aer Lingus pack using their maul to good effect and keeping Stillorgan on the backfoot. Of course when the forwards did get a hold of the ball Jerry did his usual trick of booting it aresways and handing it straight back. Finally a quick counter from the Stillorgan backline set up the opening try for Mattie under the posts.

A second try soon followed and we were now starting to think we were great. Two quick tries by Ger soon after, one of which saw him break about 12 'tackles' ended the contest and put our early scores into perspective. From now on everyone wanted a score and the first half finished 33-0.

The second half started as the first finished with a Stillorgan try straight from the kick-off. Aer Lingus, clearly disinterested with the game became even more disinterested soon after when one of their lads appeared to break his ankle. A couple of more tries were run in before the end to bring the final score to around 60.
