Leinster Branch Blitz Blackrock College RFC - 1st XV

02 November 2003

The firsts were thrown into a tough old group for this Sundays third and final blitz to qualify for the semis.

First up was Blackrock. SRFC took their time to get going but over the 20 minutes seemed to be the stronger side. Despite this a dubious try was given in the corner despite the linesman (Niall) indicating touch (fair play Niall - Alan Lewis look out). Cries from the Bull of a senior club decision by the ref fell on deaf ears.

Next up were Barnhall. SRFC played their best in this game with strong rucking leading to a slam dunk try from Tunny. Good all round perfromance won us this one with strong defence in the dying minutes to hold on.

SRFCs sails were now up and then it was Belvo. Slow to start SRFC found themselves a try down and chasing the game again. With injuries taking their toll Belvo held out, leading to another narrow defeat for us.

Injuries and tiredness from the previous 3 games took their toll in the last game and Clontarf with a surprisingly revamped team from 2 weeks previous recorded a 4-1 victory over us.

It was just one of those days, injuries, players away etc but you have to roll with the punches and play the hand your dealt. Some good performances from the newcomers to the firsts. Good performances were from Bull at scrum half and Wesley in the forwards.

Highlight of the day was surely the running around naked in the hallowed presidents room in BCRFC and chucking around the match balls from Irelands '85 Triple Crown win. Fair play to ya Tunny!
