Stillorgan 25 - UCD 15

Nov 16, 2003

First league game for the J3 team provided a positive home victory. Despite the usual slow start SRFC started the ball rolling and went into the lead with a penalty from the 22 by Alan Stewart. SRFC continued to take their time to settle, but were troubled only once inside their own 22 which resulted in a converted try by college under the posts. SRFC rallied before half time and it took a piece of brilliant cross field running from Ger '10.6' Hensey to score in the far to leave the score 8-7 at half time.

In the second half SRFC upped the pace and started to use an effective pick and go game from the forwards which lead to another excellent try from the other winger Dave Strong in the corner. College pulled back to 13-10 with a penalty which kept the pressure on. Strong rucking from the forwards in the UCD half forced 2 further penalties around the 22 mark, all converted by Mattie. Depsite a UCD try in the corner SRFC held out with Mattie kicking 2 further penalties to secure a good first league win. Well done to all players and thanks for all the support it would be great to get this every Sunday.

Men of the match go to Barry Murphy in the forwards and Dave Strong in the backs.
