Another comprehensive home win for SRFC at Fortress Bird Avenue. Despite a stronger then normal start SRFC went an unconverted try down after 30mins. Preceding this Mattie went very close with two penalties clipping the posts. SRFC pressed hard throughout and kept their heads despite trailing 5-0 at half time.
After a stirring speach SRFC got down to the business of the day and continued to build on excellent mauling and rucking from the forwards and slowly built up momentum. Out of nowhere Bective fumbled on thier own 5 yard line and Evan Shea picked up to down in the corner. Spirits were high and this was quickly followed with a brilliantly intercepted pass by Ronan McCabe who, aided with both the hill and the sun, ran from the half way line to touch down underneath the posts. The try was converted by Alan Stewart. SRFC continued to play well with excellent ball coming from the forwards and the backs were unlickey not to get away for another try on a number of occasions. Alan converted two penalties which came from sustained SRFC pressure which sealed the game. Despite some late Bective resurgent play SRFC defended well from the backs to the forwards and were not breached. A good home win. Well done to everyone including the seconds and for all those who came down to support - its much appreciated.
