Mick Lewis Shield - Mar 21, 2004
With a gale force wind behind Monkstown in the first half thay took the game to SRFC and were rewarded with a 22 - 12 lead at half time. SRFC defended well in parts and scored two well worked trys to Monkstowns one from Donncadh Cleary and Reverend Bramley(the prop now has 5 for the season against the bulls 5 so bets are on with the cup looming who will score the most come seasons end). Monkstown got one try under the posts with the rest of their points coming from a number of penalties in our 22.
Given the closeness of the score SRFC were expected to take advantage of the wind but unfortunately didn't rise to meet the occassion. Between injuries some bad luck and some good open running play from Monkstown they scored another four tries in the 2nd half to our one coming from Dominguez Donohoe.
Presentations were made later in the clubhouse by the wife of the late Michael Lewis and by Monkstown Chairman. Maybe next year we will win back the shield.
