I have decided not to pick a man of the match because I honestly couldn't. I'm sure everyone there will agree it would be very hard to pick anyone. The backs played well with some lovely hands and flashy runs both only due to the aggression and heart of every individual in the pack. There were definitely no passengers on the field. The energy expended was shown after the third match with Fabien and others needing sugar for energy. Great stuff if that is an indication of the heart in this time we will go far. It is looking good for me when the Colin leads a team so well and the backs make me feel old. I was taking notes and the only negatives across all the four games were really a result of the fact that we were playing so well.
Stillorgan 2 - Wanderers 0
When the game is played simply it is great to watch. The forwards won clean possession from lineouts and scrums, the halfbacks controlled play letting backs and forwards run. The breakdowns were supported well and the backs scored on the second or third phases.
A good run by Gus on the right wing tackled short at the 22. The ball was recycled very quickly and passed wide to the left and scored by Patrick.
A kick by Alan in the opposition 22, chased down by Gus who tackled the opposition full back, Alan was in support of his own kick and passed to Donnacha giving him a clear run underneath the posts.
The defence in this game was awesome, Wanderers seemed to have a good backline but they were going nowhere. Donnacha was very aggressive in the pack and made his presence felt on numerous occasions.
Sillorgan 2 - Dundalk 0
A very exciting first couple of minutes. Firstly a penetrating running by Gus on the wing and inside pass to Garreth was very unlucky no to yield a result, but soon after Garreth waltzed up the pitch and unselfishly passed to Patrick to give him his second try of the day.
Later in the game Paul broke the defence in the centre and sucked in the cover and gave a lovely pass to Garreth giving him his first well deserved try.
Our new prop Leo made his presence felt around the field in this game and some crisp passing from our Japanese scrumhalf were highlights of this game.
Stillorgan 3 - Railway Union 0
The highlight of this game was a quick throw in on the opposing 5 yard line. Bob had a rush of blood or a flash of inspiration and threw a American football pass to the Garreth. It caught Railway Union napping and Garreth got his second.
After the restart Railway Union picked up their game and came at us up the middle. Some great tackling by the pack and one to remember was when Alan dropped a second row in full stride.
There was a moment of brilliance when the forwards ran with the ball moving it through the hands, John to Bob to Fabien to the backs with Alan tackled just short. The French influence must be having an effect although the committee still refuse to pay for the socks. I hope it doesn't come to a players strike.
This game was put in the bag by Wesley and Donnacha with a training ground line out move working a treat. The second try of the day for the pack.
The icing on the cake was a great move from Bob to Patrick to Bob to Garreth for the try or something like that. All I know is that Bob was all over the field.
Stillorgan 1 - Dublin University 1
A couple of changes were made in this game and we probably came across the best opposition of the day. Alan and Stephen switched and Danny came on for Ross.
The score came from a tap penalty to Fabien quick recycled to the backline, through the all the hands to Alan at full back with a player outside to spare. Brillant.
We were obviously feeling tired even and a very good run by a DU player got through our defence for the first time. The clock ran out before we had a chance to take the game back.
