Stillorgan 12 - Terenure College 14

J3 League - Dec 11, 2005

This is a bit late as just in and extremely Hung-over after a very good night last night!! Well I guess after our win without the ball against Monkstown, we managed to lose this game which we really should have won. We played the first half up the hill and were all over Terenure with the Forwards playing a lot better - we lost our first 3 lineouts due to crooked throws which left Terenure off the hook. The Forwards rucking was a lot better this week and were the match of strong Terenure Pack. Once we threw the ball straight into the lineout it started to function a lot better. We got award 3 kickable penalties which unfortunately we missed. Bull and Wesley were making some great runs with Ball in hand. They only got into our half 3 times and each time we gave away silly Penalties- when are we going to learn to leave the ball on the ground and trust our defence- we are killing ourselves giving away silly penalties. The try they got was very soft after a mix up in the lineout with one of the forwards not knowing the lineout call- a free kick was awarded which turned in a penalty for not going back 10m. Their prop then took a quick one and got in for a very soft try. We were 11-0 down at halftime which did not reflect the game at all.

We started the second half well and played the ball down the hill and kept them pegged in their Half. The forwards were really competing well on the Terenure ball and robbed a lot of their Lineouts. We got an early penalty which we unfortunately we missed but kept them in their half. We then got a penalty just short of their line and before anyone knew it Marcin has taken it to himself to score a great try his second in 2 matches. Stephen converted to make the score 11-7 and we were right back in the match which was no more then we deserved. For the next 20 minutes there was a lot of dropped balls especially by butterfingers Garrett - dropped 3 passes!! They got into our half and again we gave away a penalties for hands in a ruck. They had hit the post earlier with a penalty but converted this one to leave the score at 14-7. Stephen then unfortunately got a nasty injury which required
5 stitches to his lip- hope he gets better soon. This meant we had to rejig the backline with the Versatile Marcin stepping into outhalf and milky against his wishes coming on. With 7 minutes to go Milky got in to the right of the posts stepping inside 3 men for a very good score. Marcin was unlucky to miss which would have brought us level. We tried hard for the last 7 minutes but just could not get another score so the Final scoreline was 14-12 to the Gick.

There was some good performances yesterday with Wes having the best game I have seen him taking the ball up a lot and Marcin also running great lines and taking his try very well. My Man of the match goes to Marcin just over Wes.
