J3 League - Nov 12, 2006
Well much better performance this week then last week. When it was 2pm for 2.30pm kickoff and none of the Skerries lads showed we were all wondering if the game would go ahead. They then turned up with only 12 players so after much debate Octo made his debut for Skerries wonder if he the first Mexican to ever represent the club? I don't remember the exact try scorers or sequence so if I miss any I am sorry.
We were much more clinicial this week - our lineout was much better with some great Jumping by Shane and nice throwing by Polish Greg. OUr scrum was solid enough giving us a platform. Our rucking was good at times but sometimes they did pinch the ball on us in contact.
The try scorers that I can remember were Eoin, Marius, Marcin, Garrett, Mark, New french flanker - I am sure I have missed one so let me know who you are. The backs played very well and showed what they can do when they are given the ball!! We played the game tactically well playing mostly in their half and clearing the danger. Mark placekicking was very good getting some difficult kicks and Marcin didn't miss touch once. Marcins friend greg played very well on the wing with good distribution as well as did Hops on the other wing.
Things that need to be worked on Our discipline is still very poor we gave away 14 penalties and got someone sinbinned for the second week running. Fair play to Marius who kept his discipline even though he was provoked at one stage. Our next match is against Greystones who will be WAY better then Skerries and this penalty count will kill us and could cost a close game.
Another area that we could work on is taking that extra step into contact when there is someone outside us in a better position. This is just all about making decisions on the pitch - I know some of us love contact but we risk turnovers when we should simply step into the defender and pass out. This just comes with practise.
Summary Overall well done all you can only beat what you are up against and we did that we style., Greystones will be big step up next game so we need everyone down at training in the Intrum.
